Asics Aggie USATF Fall National Cross Country Championships qualifying procedures for Open Men’s, Open Women’s, Master’s Men’s and Senior Men’s Teams:
Qualifying procedures for the Asics Aggie open men's, open women's, masters men and senior men’s teams who will participate in the USATF National Club Cross Country Championships at Plantes Ferry Recreation Park in Spokane Washington on Saturday 12/13/08 are as follows:
To be eligible to represent the Asics Aggies at 2008 USATF National Club Cross Country Championships the athlete MUST meet the following criteria first and foremost:
- The athlete must be a current dues paying member of the Asics Aggie Running Club for 2008
- The athlete must have a current Pacific Association USATF card for 2008 and be registered as an Asics Aggie (club #111).
- Athlete earns points by running in a current official Asics Aggie issued uniform and wears Asics footwear.
- Athlete must compete for the Asics Aggies at the Pacific Association Cross Country Championships on 11/23/08.
If the athlete competes the entire season in a club uniform without meeting the above criteria, they will be passed over for other athletes in determining who will represent the club at the national meet.
Open Men and Open Women who make the Asics Aggie squads receive: By making the top 5 open men's and women's Asics Aggie squads based on points (see how to earn points below) and placing in the top 20 at the PA XC Championships on Sunday 11/23/08 at Golden Gate Park in SF, participants earn their entry fee, limited meals, limited airfare transportation, hotel room and other goodies as yet to be determined.
Masters and Senior men receive entry fee, a portion of your hotel room and van, plus some limited meals. Transportation to and from the Spokane is the responsibility of the individual athlete.
Athletes qualify for Asics Aggie open men’s, open women’s, masters men and senior men’s teams for the 2008 USATF Fall XC Nationals as follows: The top 5 Aggie runners based on points earn a spot on 5-person National squad. Spots 6 and 7 are determined by the specific team captain along with the coaching staff of Joe Rubio, Kevin Searls, and Peter Sweeney. Scoring meets and points were as follows:
- 09/06/08 22nd Annual Golden Gate Park Open San Francisco: 1x point value
- 10/25/08 11th Annual Shoreline Open Mountain View: 2x point value
- 11/01/08 12th Annual John Lawson Tamalpa Challenge San Rafael: 2x point value
- 11/23/08 23rd Annual PA Cross Country Championships San Francisco: 3x point value
Available points: Aggie finisher position: Points awarded for each position

#6: 9 points
#7: 8 points
#8: 7 points

#10: 5 points
#11: 4 points
#12: 3 points
#13: 2 points

Example of points scoring:
Mrs. Rubio has the following results:
Golden Gate Park (1x value): 7th Aggie. 8 points x 1 value = 8 Shoreline (2x value): 5th Aggie. 10 points x 2 value = 20
Tamalpa (2x value): 4th Aggie. 11 points x 2 value = 22
PA's (3x value): 3rd Aggie. 12 points x 3 value = 36
TOTAL for Mrs. Rubio: 86 total points for the season.
If this total is one of the top five point totals on her team, she would have earned a ticket to the USATF Fall XC Nationals granted she finished in the top 20 at the PA XC Championship meet.
The final two available spots are voted on by the individual team captain and the coaching staff based on criteria that include: improvement throughout the season, ability to finish within the top five Aggie scorers at Nationals, meet placing versus other team members at the above four scoring meets, as well as other meet results throughout the season on the PA calendar. Runners #6 and 7 or any of the top 5 point scorers not placing in the top 20 at the PA Championships are able to participate in the event but must pay their own expenses to attend.
Final Incentive, Shoe Builder Program Applies:
As a final incentive to compete, if you are a top 5 scoring member for the Asics Aggies on any winning men’s or women’s open, masters men’s and masters women’s teams at any of the cross country meets within the PA/USATF schedule (all the meets above qualify) you will earn a $50 credit for each team win towards the purchase of Asics shoes through the club. If you are top 5 on 3 winning teams within the official PAUSATF XC schedule you would earn a $150 credit on Asics shoes purchased through the club.
